Sand Pail Mobile

Hi Everybody!

Hopefully you just came from visiting Jenny @ CrazyAboutCricut , then you are in the right place. If you just stumbled upon this awesome blog hop, please head over to see Jenny @ CrazyAboutCricut to start from the beginning.
Thank you for joining us for the All American Blog hop!

Here's the project I made to share with you today:
 it's a sand pail mobile.

My kids and I made it to honor our recent trip to the coast, but it can also become a welcome sign for your front porch or summer themed BBQ or party decoration.
Sorry about the busy picture.  It's raining here and I couldn't get a break in the weather to take a better picture.  Those are my Clematis and Concord Grape vines growing on the arbor you see in the background. :)

After we selected our pail and found a surplus of shovels, we sat down to create our mobile. We drilled a few holes in the bottom of our pail and strung the shovels using fishing line. I also added a few extra holes for drainage.
We used Nate's ABC's for our lettering on our pail. Cut it out in white vinyl. Here my son is pulling off the negative space (the bg around the letters) from the letters.
After using transfer tape to place the letters on the pail (we used clear shelf paper for transfer tape) we added details and doodling using a Sharpie marker. My eight year old did very well, but six year old was very unsure about his lines, but I think he did fine.

Here is the completed mobile.

We ended up finding seven shovels. Hanging them using fishing line worked well. We hung them in varying lengths and they make a nice soft sound when the wind catches them.

We used this project to make a family mobile we can hang in the front yard (once we get a new hook placed) but it could easily make a wonderful summer party decoration!  How cute would it be to let your kids make their own!! They come out really inexpensively, especially if you shop at the Dollar Tree or end of summer clearance sales.

One last picture of our project. Don't my boys look so proud!! Bryce (8) is on the left and Owen (6) is on the right. In total, the mobile measures about 3 ft.

That's it, I hope you enjoyed my project, we had a wonderful time making it and would love to hear what you think!
