Tracy over at Craft Junkie Too is up to it again!! She has asked her wonderful design team (including me) to create a project with the theme:
Today I have two projects to share: the first is making these egg shaped sidewalk chalk.
These were so easy to make. You will need:
- Plaster of Paris
- Tempera or Acrylic Paint
- Petroleum Jelly
- plastic Easter eggs
- disposable cups
- disposable spoons or wooden craft sticks
- egg carton or something to support the eggs while filling and drying
Take petroleum jelly and liberally coat the insides of the eggs and then place in the egg carton. Mix 1/2 cup Plaster of Paris with 1/4 cup water and stir well. Mix in enough liquid paint to get your desired color. We added about a teaspoon or so. We mixed up a blue, reddish pink and green batch. We had each person mixing a color while I poured them into the egg forms.
Pour mixture into egg halves. This amount makes about 1 1/2 eggs. We used the 1/2 to make two colored eggs. DO NOT pour extra plaster down your sink drain!!!! Throw it in the trash!
Allow this mixture to set about 5 minutes---just until thick enough to put the egg halves together. Once together, hold tightly and carefully give egg a good shake and a firm tap on a hard surface to allow plaster to form to the egg and the halves to come together.
Allow eggs to harden overnight. To remove them from the plastic an adult must use a knife to work the halves apart. The above picture is of our second or third batch. It takes practice to get the eggs without air pockets in them... don't worry, practice eggs still draw just as well. :)
This is how we packaged our eggs. We bought these tall skinny paint cans from Joann's for $1.50. Add some Easter Grass and you are good to go. My second project for today is the card to add to your Easter pail.
Our eggs look so cute alongside an Easter bunny, don't you think? :)
One more shot of the Easter pail.
This is the inside of the egg card. I stamped a little "Happy Easter" sentiment from
a Close to my Heart stamp set.
Okay, so you know I couldn't make a set of sidewalk chalk and not let my kids play!!! :)
I think they were happy with our rainy day project... enough that they braved a break in the rain to decorate my driveway!
And here is a lovely flower to end my post!
Have fun with this recipe and take some time to craft with your kids today!Jump over to Tracy's blog at CraftJunkietoo.com and

I am also entering this project into the challenge over at Bitten by the Bug 2. They are having an egg challenge... talk about perfect for this project huh! :) Paper Cutz is having an egg (or bunny or lamb) challenge too, so I'll link up there too!
SO COOL!!!!
