My 6-year-old son and I created this summer reading log featuring the Airplane from Boys will be Boys. This is basically the same as my 8 year-old's reading log we made the other day.
I cut the airplane from Boys will be Boys at 4". My son helped design and assemble his reading log. He chose paper from my scrap bin - the only thing this isn't scraps is the white card stock cover. The reading log measures 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and fits the reading log pages perfectly (just fold the pages in half and you're done). Here you can see the airplane... it's got all kids of layers (all patterned paper). We added some Glossy Accents and glitter glue to the windows and propellers and I added the white gel pen stitches to the shadow layer. The airplane is attached with super thick pop dots to give it lots of height.
We printed the title directly on the blue polka- dot layer. Owie picked Pea Picky Panda font (30 points). I added a blue outline to the black letters and a shadow layer to match Bryce's reading log.
Here is the inside of the reading log. I've included a PDF file so you can download it for free and make your own (or create one with your child). I used a saddle stapler to bind Bryce's reading log, but you can lace it, use a Bind-it-all, Cinch binder etc.
Here's a close up of the reading log pages. You can see I just used some 20 lb printer paper for our pages (you can see the backside bleeding through a little) but you could used heavier paper if you wish.

I love all that polka dotted paper. I wish I was flying thru the sky to some exotic island. Super fun way to get the boys to read!
Thanks for joining Die Cuttin' Divas this week! I hope you join us next week for a great sketch.

Cheryl, I want to make 3 of these for my little "fake grandchidren" next door. When I do, is it ok to put them on my log as long as I give you the credit for the idea?

What a fabulous idea! Your son has a knack for this, his paper choices look great :) Very cute and creative!
This is something that I am going to make for my nieces. Maybe they will want to read more this summer if they have a book like this. Thanks for joining us at DCD -Yvette
