Framed Silhouettes

Today is another wonderful Thankful Thursday Design Team Day over at Crazy About Cricut.  The whole reason for Thankful Thursday is to encourage crafters to get their kids (or the kids in their lives) and craft away!! I absolutely LOVE crafting with my boys... we always have a terrific time!!

The theme this week is "Grandparents" in honor of Grandparents day coming on September 11th, 2011.  My boys wanted to create these super classic silhouette frames for all the grandparents in our lives.

First I took pics of my boys and took out the background using Photoshop (not a necessary step, but I find it makes the next step easier) and then printed them onto copy weight paper.  From here I attached the pictures to black card stock, cut the paper in half and let my boys cut themselves out! :)

This step is easier with the back ground removed from the picture, it makes knowing where to cut easy for the littlest of crafters! :)  This side will become the back of your silhouette.  The black paper you attached to the back of your paper will become the front of your silhouette.

My boys chose the paper from a My Minds Eye paper pack called Stomp (a dinosaur themed pack).  We found some 6" x 6" frames at our local framing shop and created these to fit inside. We cut the bottom layer to 6" x 6", a black layer to 5 3/4" x 5 3/4" and the top green layer to 5 1/2" x 5 1/2". We just used some ATG tape to attach everything together. I added gel pen stitches to the black layer.

Framed up, they sure look cute don't they?!?  To label the boy's picture we printed their names and the date onto white card stock. Using my EK Success Photo Label punch, my boys punched it out.

We used Pristina font.  The labels were matted with some black and some scrap green patterned paper.

They look nice here on my wall... I bet they will look even better on our Grandparent's wall! :)

Please jump over to Crazy About Cricut and take a look at what Jenny and the other Thankful Thursday Designers have come up with.

That is a great idea Cheryl. My parents have pics of my sibs and me when we were little like this still hanging on the wall. I remember Mom had to take it to someone to do. You have just made the process so much easier;)
