Thanks for joining us on the Snowy Winter Blog Hop!! You should be coming from Blanca @ sweetscrappingwithhoneyb.blogspot.com. If not, please hop on over to Dorcas @ 4craftyangels.blogspot.com and start from the begining... you won't want to miss a single blog!
If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you'll know I love doing projects with my kiddos. I also love doing projects using recycled supplies! Today, I'll share a project that includes BOTH! :)
This is a Recycled Puzzle Piece Advent Wreath!!
I am super excited to share this with you. Do you have a puzzle that is missing a piece or two? My kids love puzzles, but always seem to eventually loose a piece.
The first step of this project is painting all the remaining pieces any green color you may have around. You can combine a couple of puzzles if you like. You can even paint the pieces a couple of colors. How ever you or your children wish!
Next make a wreath shape. I used my Cricut and Gypsy to cut out this 12" wreath (11" center circle). We used this shape as our base and simply glued the puzzle pieces to the base.
As you can see, I had my kids glue one layer down and then topped the first row of puzzle pieces with a second layer of pieces, joining the seams of the first layer. That made our base layer rigid.
I hot-melt glued 6" lengths of green ribbon around the wreath... 24 ribbons, one for each day of the Christmas Countdown. I chose to use the ribbon so I can have my kiddos reuse this wreath each year, just by reloading the candy pieces.
I used my Gypsy, Christmas Cheer (for the stockings, cut at 6") and my Cri-kit pens to first write out my son's names and cut the wonderful stockings,
Again, I used my Cri-kit pens to write out the numbers (Opposites Attract - 3/4") for each day and cut out the circles (1" from Plantin Schoolbook). I have the gypsy file to share, if you'd like it please email me or include a request in your comment.
Here you can see the puzzle pieces, the ribbons tied to the candies and how wonderful the numbers write out with the Cri-kit pens!
Tie a candy to each ribbon, hot glue the numbers to each candy, add a hanger and stocking and you are done!! I added a candy cane to the stocking for a Christmas treat!
I really hope you enjoyed my blog hop project. It came out as a very cheap project too:
recycled puzzle pieces: free
ribbon: 2/$1.00 @ Joanns
starlight mint candies: $1 for 75 pieces @ Walmart
paper scraps for the cricut cuts: pennies
full sheet of card stock for the wreath base: .25 @ Joanns
Crafting with your kids: pricless
Please take a half hour and craft with your kiddos today!
Now, please leave a comment for your chance to win my blog candy. You can snag a second entry to win my blog candy by commenting on my blog candy post too.
