Mother's Day Trivets

Hi Everybody! Today is Thankful Thursday over at CrazyAboutCricut, and I am a proud member of the Design Team. The challenge this week was to make a Mother's Day project with your kiddos.  Here is the project that I made with my boys:
We made a trivet using 8" x 8" ceramic tiles we picked up for .45 cents from the Habitat for Humanity Re-store. If you aren't familiar with the Re-store, it's a place that you can donate your unused or re usable home remodel goods. The Re-store then sells the products for CHEAP and all the proceeds go to your local Habitat for Humanity chapter.  I'm not sure if it's the same at all Re-stores, but at my local store, all the employees are VOLUNTEERS!!:)

Okay, on to my project: We made six of these trivets for all the Mom's in our lives.  You need oven bake-able paint (check the label - we used Americana Gloss Enamels paint from Joanns) and Paint pens (we used Elmer's brand Painters).

Let your child or children take turns getting their hands painted... adult help needed here. Carefully place the hand prints on the tile and lift straight off. Let the paint dry completely.

I added the little paint pen stitches in contrasting colors and wrote the child's name under the hand.  You can also add the ages, etc and a  Happy Mother's Day sentiment using the paint pens.  Again, let the paint dry and bake according to directions.  Mine says bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes and cool in the oven.

I then attached rubber feet and a sawtooth hanger to the back of my tiles.

We have an awsome prize this month, it's a Post-it prize pack!!

Don't forget to head over to Crazy About Cricut, and enter your family project!
