Lego Mini-fig Head and a Blog Hop

Hi, and welcome to the Cricut Crafts Blog Hop!!
If you've come from Heather at Paper Junkieyou are in the right place! If you just came across the hop, please start at the beginning over at Jenny's Blog, Crazy About Cricut.

Okay, time for my project:

My son, Bryce, just celebrated his 11th birthday and his favorite thing right now is LEGOS!!! Do you have one of those kiddos too??

Anyway, I designed a Lego Mini-figurine head card for his birthday. While there is no Lego Cricut Cartridge, I had to come up with something....

Using my Gypsy, I combined some images from both Robotz and a couple periods and 1/2 of a parenthesis from Plantin School Book for the smiley mouth. I welded two of the Robotz image, flipping one upside down, to create a shape very close to the shape of a Lego Mini-Fig head.

I set the file up to cut the face (with the eyes and smile cut outs) on the left and the background face piece of the right. The card base was set-up on layer 2 on my Gypsy. I welded two of the background pieces together to form the folded base.

Here you can see all the parts ready for assembly. I sized the head to be 4 1/4" wide and just over 5 1/2" tall, you'll see why in just a couple steps.

So, I folded the base and I was ready for assembly. Like the Create a Critter carts, this card became very easy to assemble. :)

See, easy and quick assembly. :) Okay, so the bottom bump (called studs) on the Lego Mini-Fig head was a little long... so I used my paper trimmer to cut the card to 5 1/2" so it can fit in a standard A2 card. Don't forget to round the corners with a corner chomper or just by hand.

I added some details and doodling with my Sakura White Gel Pen.

Then, using the same face files, sized to 1", I made some Mini-fig confetti to put inside the card. Since Bryce was turning 11, his card was filled with 11 little friends. :)

If you'd like the Gypsy file for this cute little Mini-fig card, please let me know. I'd be happy to share.

Grinch Pills

My boys love our "Grinch Pills".  These could be perfect for that person on your Christmas list that just doesn't have the Holiday Spirit. They also make wonderful stocking stuffers.

I shared them last year, but really think they deserve another go... plus I had to make some more today, so they were fresh in my mind. :)

I have included jpg files for you to make your own double or single sided "Grinch Pills" and the Gypsy file for you to cut the tic tac wrapper with your Cricut. - Just follow the links (or click on the photos) to go to 4Shared to download the files.  If you have a problem, I can email them to you too.

Double sided and single sided "Grinch Pills."

Both sides of the double sided version of the project.
Here you can see how I added the ornament hanger (a length of ribbon would look lovely too).
I used the Big Pack of tic tacs for this project.

The Gypsy files use "Just Because Cards" for the rounded rectangle and "spine" of the tic tac wrapper (but you could substitute any rounded rectangle if you need to).

Vellum Window Card Tutorial

Today is another Crafty Designer Day over at Craft Junkie Too!! This week Tracy challenged us all to share a project of our choosing... how fun is that.  So I am sharing a tutorial.  :) A little while back, I shared this wonderful vellum window card, I had several visitors ask for a tutorial. Feel free to download the PDF of this tutorial (via 4 Shared.com) or you can even download the Gypsy file too.

Here is the card I will share today:

Here are the pieces you'll need:
1: two frames from Cindy Loo - welded together and a bird card from Serenade welded into the card front
2: Same two frames from Cindy Lou - sized a little smaller (for a second card layer insert)
3: One of the frames (center hidden) cut in vellum
4: One birdcage - with bird - from April Showers (sized to 3.5")
5: One birdcage - without bird - from April Showers (sized to 3.5")
6: a second frame - same as the card front - but without the welded card back.

Card body frames are sized to : 5.5" x 4.75"
Card insert frames are sized to 5.25" x 4.5"

Step 1: piece together the bird and her cage layer. I used dark blue shimmer paper for the bird layer and white glitter paper for the cage.

Step 2: glue the bird cage layer onto the card front frame.  For the frame, I used this wonderful brown paper with tiny blue polka-dots (from DCWV Butterfly and Blooms stack)

Step 3: glue the vellum layer to the top of the card base layer. I used scotch quick dry glue... it shows through but it won't matter because we'll cover it in the next step.

Step 4: Attach the frame (with bird cage later) to the card base.  You will be sandwiching the vellum layer between the card base and your frame layer.

Step 5: fold your card base insert and attach to the inside of your card.  You can skip this step, but anything you write in your card will show through the vellum layer.  On the other vellum window card I made, I didn't have the heart to write in it! :)

This is what the insert looks like opened up. See, lots of room to write now! :)

Here is the completed card.  See how the blue card insert shows through the vellum?

To finish off the card front, I added some white gel pen stitches, flat back adhesive pearls and a  light blue sheer bow.

I stamped this sentiment on the top of the insert. This stamp is from My Pink Stamper's Punny-licious set.  I lined this stamp up to hide under the bird when the card is closed.  I added some more white gel pen stitches on this layer.

And here is the final layer of the card. I stamped a Scrappy Mom's stamp here.  More gel pen stitches and I am done! :)

I just LOVE how this card turned out.  Here I held the card front up in front of my crafting light.  I love how the light shows through and illuminates the birdcage.

Once again, here is a link to the PDF of this tutorial, you can easily print the tutorial to take to your craft space.  It includes all the steps and pictures too.

Peppermint Bunnies

Jenny over at Crazy About Cricut is celebrating Thankful Thursday. If you haven't heard about Thankful Thursday, it's all about family time, crafting with the kiddos and spending time together. The theme this week is to make Easter or Spring Treats.

My sons and I are making these cute bunnies for classroom goodies for Easter.  They turned out so cute! :)

First off, I know you are thinking it already...
"Where in the heck is the Gypsy cut file for these A-DOR-A-BLE bunnies? Cheryl always shares her Gypsy files!!"
Well, here it is:

To make these yummy bunnies you'll need a Gypsy, the Gypsy Wanderings cart and these other supplies:
Peachy Keen face parts stamp set (or draw on the face by hand)
ATG glue or other glue runner
Scotch Quick Dry Glue
Tweezers
tape
Ink pad
Peppermint patties candies

See how cute a personalized stamp is? I love these and they only cost $6 each.
We cut out all out pieces on the Gypsy. On my file you'll see one layer for the head (including the welded ears), one layer for the faces (including the nose cut out), and one layer for the inside of the ears.

With the noses cut out of the faces, we just lined up some Peachy Keen face parts on our stamp block.

Then we flipped our faces and taped a piece of pink card stock to the cover the nose hole.

We also glued on the inside of the ears using Scotch Quick Dry Glue.
How do you like our bunny parts? :)

Next I applied ATG tape to the face and head pieces and my boys put them all together, sandwiching the peppermint patties in-between.  So cute and they really don't take too long. We put 50 of them together in just over an hour.

Here are our happy bunnies.

What an adorable side shot, huh!

We made a tag to match our bunnies.  Here I clipped off the ends of the ear parts. The "Happy Easter" stamp is from Close to my Heart.

We put 25 of the bunnies in one of these $1.50 paint pails from Joann's. We added some plastic Easter grass and some sheer ribbon to the outside and we were done.

So cute right!  Now download the Gypsy file and take some time to craft with your kids today!
In case you missed it earlier, here is the Gypsy file again:

Birthday Oreo Cookie Card

If you haven't yet, please take a second to enter my 400 follower giveaway!

Jenny over at Crazy About Cricut is celebrating Thankful Thursday. If you haven't heard about Thankful Thursday, it's all about family time, crafting with the kiddos and spending time together.

This time the theme is birthday!! My 8 year old Bryce made this card!! Aside from the heat embossing and white gel pen stitches Bryce did it all! :)  He is such a little star in the crafting space! My 6 year old, Owen, shared a project last Thursday, so it was Bryce's turn in the blogging spotlight!

This is Bryce's completed card. He is so proud...

Using Gypsy Wanderings (but you can use any cart with scalloped circles, scalloped ovals and circles) we designed the card in my Gypsy.  My Little Man is actually really good on my Gypsy!

We cut the following shapes:
1 5" circle in brown
2 5" circles in white (for the cream filling)
1 6" scalloped circle in brown  for the card front
2 6" scalloped circles (welded) for the card front
1 1 3/4" scalloped oval in brown for the sentiment layer
1 1 1/2" scalloped oval in brown

After we cut out all the layers, Bryce embossed the brown circle layer.  This layer will be the top of the sandwich cookie. He used the D'vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder.

He stamped the inside with a Studio G stamp.

How proud is he!?! :)

This is the card front.  I added the gel pen stitches for Bryce. I also did the heat embossing with the Studio G "sweet" stamp. Although he'd probably do fine, I get nervous around heat tools.

Bryce wanted to add the buttons and I convinced him they need a little white twine too. :)

Bryce thinks the gel pen stitches add a lot to the project but says I "do them better".

Didn't Bryce do a great job on his stamping for the creamy center?

Thanks for visiting us today!! Bryce loves reading comments about his work. If you have the time, please leave him a comment.

Bryce is also entering this card into the challenge
