Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!
This weeks theme is
(make a project with sand, sun, waves, crabs,
sea gulls, etc... anything you would find or do at the beach)
I used Plantin Schoolbook to create the oval card base. I sized the oval to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", copied the oval and welded it on my Gypsy. To cover the flat edge you get when you weld the shapes together, I cut the black top layer out again. Then the light blue sky layer measures 4" x 5 1/4".
The palm tree (cut to 3") and the sun (cut to 1 1/2") are both from Create a Critter. I cut an additional layer that is the same as the blue sky layer using brown Kraft cardstock. I then tore off strips of it to make the sand layers. First I tore the layers, inked them with brown ink and a sponge dauber, and then attached them to the sky layer and trimmed them to match.
The green palm tree top was inked in dark green ink and the sun layers were both inked with orange ink to give them some depth and to match the sand layers.
The center of the palm tree top is glue down while the ends of the arms are attached with pop dots. I didn't have any brown rhinestones, so to create the coconuts in the tree, I used a brown Sharpie to color some clear rhinestones.
I used a Hero Arts sentiment stamps on the front and inside are from a set called "Sending Smiles" (Hero Arts #CL490). I attached the right side of the banner with a pop dot also.
And of course I couldn't finish this card without some of my white gel pen doodling.
Here you can see the inside sentiment as well as the card base shape. I adore shaped cards and this one will fit inside a standard A2 envelope.
We'd love for you to come on over and play along with us at Die Cuttin' Divas!

Very nice Cheryl!
Cheryl,
I love your card, so much detail! Love the colors too!
So cute, palm trees are my favorite!
The shape makes this a better card than just a rectangle, and I'd know your doodling anywhere. :)
