CJT DT Project: Classroom giveaway bookmarks

I am a very proud member of Tracy's design team over at Craft Junkie Too.  Tracy asked the design team for this week to share a Christmas project. My project today is a bookmark reading log my kids helped me create for their classroom giveaways for Christmas.

I created a PDF file that goes with this project. Please feel free to download the file. You are free to use it as much as you'd like for your personal projects, but it is not to be used for commercial purposes. If you'd like to post the PDF or this project on your own website or blog, please link it back to the Cards by CG blog (cardsbycg.blogspot.com).

This is a jpg of the pdf file.
I included three file share programs for you to download with. Hopefully you'll have no

On to the project:
Step 1: Print out the PDF onto card stock or copy paper.  I use white for my projects, but any color will do. You will have enough reading logs for two bookmarks each time you print the pdf file.

Step 2: Cut a book mark from card stock. The measurements are 2 1/4" x 8" - you can cut a total of four bookmarks from one sheet of standard 81/2" x 11" card stock.

Step 3: Cut out the reading logs and mount them on the colored card stock, there will be one side with a large blank spot at the top of the bookmark. This is where you or your child will add decorations (we chose to some felt penguin stickers from Joanns). The second side (the long one) will be added to the back of the bookmark. - see second picture -

Step 4: My kids used the Crop-a-Dial to punch holes in the top of the bookmark to add ribbons.

Step 5: We set eyelets with the Crop-a-Dial.
Step 6: Cut ribbons to add to the top of your bookmarks, we used 8" for each bookmark.

Step 7: Cut your decorations using the Cricut or use stickers, your kid's artwork or picture etc. We've used Cricut cuts in the past and usually a 2 1/2" cut fits perfectly.

Now my kids can hand out bookmarks to their classmates to help them all remember to read during Christmas Break.  I made a total of 50 of these bookmarks - with the help of Joann's pre-assembled penguin stickers - in about 2 hours total.

I included my blog address on the bottom so parents of my children's classmates can visit my blog to print refill reading logs.

Thanks so much for visiting me here at CardsbyCG.blogspot.com.  I'd love to hear what you think.  Feel free to become a follower or sign up for my email updates (provided through FeedBurner).  I'd love to share my crafting journey with you! - Cheryl

Blog-Hop Day Two "Monster Booklets"

Yesterday on our blog-hop, I made a bookmark reading log. Today I am making matching monster booklets. These are simply made by covering notebooks in matching paper and adding the same monster to the front of the cover. I made two different cover designs: the first booklet style and the second flap style.

I bought a five pack of these cute little blue notebooks at my local Dollar Tree.
 The booklets measured 3 1/2" x 5".

The booklet style cover was cut at 7 1/4" x 5"
The flap style was cut at 3 1/2" x 10 3/8"
Each had an 1/8" spine (which I scored before folding).

I then added the ribbon on the spine.
The booklet style ribbon measured 13"
The flap style ribbon measured 10"

My son's picked out the Mini Monsters cartridge yesterday for the bookmarks, so we used the same cartridge today for the matching booklets.
Today we cut all cuts and layers at 3".
We then mounted the shadowed cuts up on pop-dots
(we used Therm-o-Web 3D Foam squares).

Here is a picture of our complete booklets, two in booklet style, two in flap style.

Here are all our matching booklets and the reading log bookmarks from yesterday.
Here is a link back to that project if you'd like to take a look. It even includes a PDF file for you to print out your own reading log to make the bookmarks.

Thanks for hopping along this blog hop. To win some blog candy from CardsbyCG, please become a follower and leave a comment at the end of this posting. I look forward to hearing what you think of this project!  The blog candy drawing will be held on Monday, August 16th, 2010.
