Happy 4th of July!

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!
This weeks color theme is

All cuts are from Plantin Schoolbook. The cityscape is sized to 5 1/2" wide, the white oval layer is 3 3/4" x 5", the black oval layer is 4" x 5 1/4" and the red oval layer is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".  I welded the card base using a couple of ovals I grabbed from PS too.

I sponged the clouds using some blue ink and a die cut cloud. Then I placed the flag in place and attached the cityscape on top of that.  Trimming the edges created a nice clean look for the line of buildings. I added the sentiment using some white MS ink and an old stamp from my stash.

To create this flag, I attached 1 1/4" of the red patterned paper to the bottom of the white oval (scraps from DCWV's summer stack) and placed the blue triangle next.  I cut some white strips to 1/4" and glued them on individually, using an extra 1/4" strip for spacing. The little silver stars are glued to the blue section last. These little stars are so cute but TINY... they are from a nail art kit I've had forever.

Here you can see the sparkle on the little stars.

The card base is a oval shaped card. I love shaped cards and go on spurts where I make nothing other than shaped cards! :)

Well, I hope you all have a very happy and safe 4th of July!

We'd love for you to come on over and play along with us at Die Cuttin' Divas!

Flag Birthday Card

Hi! Thanks for hoping with us along

If you came from Nicolette's blog, you are in the right place.  If you just came across this hop and would like to start from the beginning, please go back to Nicolette's blog.

Here is my red, white and blue card.  I took the idea of the flag and tweaked it just a little. The card is all hand cut (no Cricut... I know... GASP).

I created this template for the waving flag shape by tracing the edge of a plate.  I made one slightly larger for the shadow layer. The white one will become the flag, and then later on I cut a card base using the shadow layer for my pattern.

I cut the base layer again in red polka-dots.  I flipped it over and marked every 1/2" so I could trace some stripes.  I then hand cut them to piece on the white base layer.

I again used the template to make the blue stars from some DCWV patterned paper. I measured down so this portion would cover three stripes.  The width is up to you, but mine is about 2 1/2".

I assembled the flag first, then I got ready to cut it up!! :)  I wanted the sentiment to peek out from under a stripe, so I measured my sentiment and cut out a red stripe with an Exacto knife to create a window.

After my window was cut, I finished the card base and repeated the cut out.  I then curved my acrylic stamp to fit inside the window and stamped it onto the red polka-dot layer inside the card through the opening.

See?? Here you can see the window better.

This is what the inside looks like, I mixed-and-matched a couple sentiments from a Hero Arts set called Big Hugs to get this completed sentiment. I added some gel pen stitches to the inside and outside layer and I was done! :)

Here's my little goof up! :)  That just shows it's handmade right?

This is the card opened up, you can actually see the window in this shot.  This cut could almost double as an open book shaped card.

Feel free to re-create this card for 4th of July, or a birthday card, like I did.  Have fun! :) If you do make this style of card, please leave me a link in the comments section. I'd love to see what you do with it.

America the Beautiful card

Today is a Digital Design Team Day over at Paper Playtime! :)
The theme this time is to red, white and blue project and include a digital image.

Today I am using an image from Doodle Pantry
I made this flag shaped cricut-less card by hand.  I just drew the wave shape by tracing the shape onto a cardboard template so all the lines would be parallel. The card base measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
I love the antique like feel I achieved by using ivory, cranberry red and navy blue for the card stock layering of the flag.

I added the red circle around the eagle using Photoshop.  I printed it onto some glossy photo paper and it really has a wonderful shine.  I used some of my kids markers to color the eagles feathers, beak and eye.  I cut two of these and cut out one eagle to pop him up on  a layer of pop dots.

I printed the sentiment with the eagle.  I then punched it with my EK Success photo label punch and made a little mat with some scrap blue paper. I added some smaller stars to the four corners.

These stars are little strips of adhesive back embellishments. These are by Mark Richards (I bought them at Michael's on clearance for $1.99 last November). As usual, I added some stitches using my white Gelly Roll pen.

Here is the card base, you can see how I cut the entire card base into the waving flag shape.

Here are all the images you get with this patriotic eagle image.  I love all the sentiments!! Here is the link to the Doodle Pantry Store so you can grab this set too!
