Jen's Birthday Blog Hop

Hi everyone!! We are all so happy to have you hopping with us today!!

You should have come here from Celeste's blog  (isn't she so wonderful).  If you just happened upon my blog and would like to start at the beginning, please go back and visit Jen  (the birthday girl) so you won't miss any of the crafty ladies on the hop!!

Here is the birthday card I made for Jen!! It has LOTS of purple... after all, she is the Purple Scrapbooker! :)

The card is shaped like a cloud.  I've been obsessed with shaped cards lately, I don't know what it is but they are so fun to make!! As you can see, I used my Gypsy to weld two cloud shapes together.  When I do this, the overlap creates a flat side on the card base when it's folded, so I always cut an additional top layer to cover the entire card body.

Here's the little butterfly I added to the cloud.  I put Glossy Accents and Stickles on the butterfly wings as well as placing a few dark purple rhinestones to represent the flutter trail. The wings are curled up and propped up with pop dots while the butterfly's body is glue straight to the card.

.

I just freehanded the trail and spacing for the rhinestones. I used cute plaid paper for the cute but uncommon purple cloud! :) Here you can see all the little stitches I doodled on Jen's card.

I stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment on a scrap of the purple polka dot paper and used a square punch to cut the little "v"s to create the little banner shape.  I layered up the sentiment and had to punch each layer as I built it up. This banner is added with pop dots.

More stitching and another stamp for the inside.

Supplies:
Bazzill purple metallic card stock base
purple plaid paper (cloud) is Heidi Grace
Polka dot paper (on butterfly wings and sentiment tag) is also Heidi Grace
Dark purple generic card stock
Dark Purple self stick rhinestones
Glossy Accents
Stickles
Square punch
Gelly Roller purple glitter gel pen
Pop dots
Scotch Quick Dry Glue
ATG glue runner
birthday sentiments are Hero Arts : Big Hugs

Cricut Cartridges used:
April Showers Seasonal Cricut Cart for the cloud card body (cut @ 4 1/4" x 5 1/2")
Paper Pups for the butterfly (cut @ 2.36")

Now, don't forget to leave me a comment for a chance to win my blog candy!!

I am giving away this 10 piece stamp set from Inkadinkado.  It's all about birthdays!!

Your next stop is Julie @ Cricut Chick

Cheryl,

Ah, purple...it's always been my favorite color (I shouldn't admit to it, but I had purple painted walls in my bedroom growing up!;)! I love your shaped cards, too!!! :) I can't wait to try them now that my Gypsy should be working (I just got one for my birthday in January, went to sync it before the deadline in February, & it was defective, so I had to send it back...). Wish I lived closer to get a lesson!

Thanks for sharing!

Crafty hugs,

Jennifer
