This project was designed for the Back to School Blog hop but will double as an entry on FaceBook:

The challenge was to use an item that would usually be recycled or thrown away!
Welcome back to the Back to School Blog Hop! I'm so glad that you joined me today. If you haven't been hopping here everyday, feel free to check back on my blog. In the last five days, I've shared a Bookmark Reading Log, Matching Monster Booklets, a quick and easy treat holder, and scratch tickets. Today, we'll make gift card holders.
First step is RECYCLE!! I always love a project where you can recycle and craft! Save a toilet paper roll or two (or paper towel roll if you prefer).
I read on someone else's blog that the best way to flatten out a TP roll is to run it through your Cuttlebug. It worked great!
Thanks to a reader's comment, here is the blog that I snagged the Cuttlebug tip from!
Okay, so flatten your TP roll and staple it shut on only one end and the sides of the open end (see the pictures).
Next cut paper to fit the flat roll. My paper was 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" and is from the DCWV "Grade School mini stack. It didn't require ANY trimming.... LOVE THAT!!
Then cut a tag that will slip into the tube. You can hand cut a tag that measures 2" x 4 3/4" or use the Schoolbook Cricut Cartridge and cut a tag using 2". You'll need two tags for each tube. I sandwich the two tags together for strength.
Punch a hole in the tag, set and eyelet and thread on some ribbon. I used my 3/16" hole and eyelets setter on my Crop-a-Dile. My ribbon measured about 12".
I added a little thank you tag with my 2" scallop punch and 1 1/2" circle punch. I used a Studio G "Thank you" stamp.
Here is a close-up of the Thank You tag.
See how great the gift card fits the tube! And you can feel great about recycling
(and you gotta love free supplies)!
Thanks for hopping along this blog hop. To win some blog candy from CardsbyCG, please become a follower and leave a comment at the end of this posting. I look forward to hearing what you think of this project! The blog candy drawing will be held on Monday, August 16th, 2010.
