Captain America Shield Shaped Card

The theme this week is School Colors... that can mean make a project with your local University or Public School colors, maybe even your old College colors?

So, my sons go to Orchards Elementary school here in Washington. The school colors are Blue, Red and White and while I automatically thought 4th of July, I came up with the project to honor an all american super hero: Captain America. This is a 3-d card to resemble his shield and will be a wonderful card for my nephew who is having an Avengers party at the end of the month.

The card measures 5", the circle layers are as follows:

5", 4 1/4", 3 3/4" and 3 1/4" and the star is 2 3/4". I grabbed all these shapes from Life's a Party because I love the star, but you can use any cartridge that has these basic shapes.

I inked the edges of all the layers with some brown Memento ink and a sponge, then I added some more aging to make the shield look battle-worn. I used a paper shaper to curve the assembled shield to give it dimension and put the card together with a layer of pop dots through the middle but glued the rim directly to the card base.

All that inking and shaping gave the shield this wonderful dimension. I'm sure the birthday boy will just LOVE it. :)

Airplane Birthday

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!

This weeks theme is

National Aviation Day!!

(create a project with a plane, helicopter or glider)

I created this card using Everyday Pop up Cards. The plane measures 2 1/2", the card base is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" so it will fit in a standard envelope. A sweet little red bow and sentiment banner finishes off the card front.

 I embossed the blue layer (4" x 4") with a Darice embossing folders called "Cloudy Sky" and then inked it using a white ink pad.

I used a Hero Arts stamp from the Big Hugs set and hand cut the little "v" for the banner and made a matching mat with some black cardstock. Both the banner and the card base were embellished with my white gel pen "stitches".

I attached the plane body to the wing parts with a layer of pop dots and then attached both the plane and the banner to the card base with pop dots too. I just love all the dimension.

I finished off the inside of the card with another stamp from the Hero Art's Big Hugs stamp set.

Birthday Candles Card

I am a VERY proud new member of Cori's Design Team over at Ginger Snaps Scraps and today I have a fun card to share with you!

For my project today, I am featuring this manly birthday card. I find masculine cards the hardest to make, but I love how this one turned out. 

I cut some leaves for the candle flames, Plantin Schoolbook for the candle bodies, and Spellbinders Nestabilites scalloped circle and circle.  The card base and circle layer are Bazzill cardstock. 

Here are the measurements:

flames : 1"

candle bodies : 3/4" x 2 1/2"

scalloped circle: 4 1/4"

circle : 3 1/2"

card base : 5" x 10" scored into a 5" x 5" card

layers : 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" and 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"

I inked around the edges of the candles with brown ink and the flames with orange ink.  The center candle is mounted on 1/8" pop dots and the two outside candles are mounted up on 1/4" pop dots. The wicks are made with some black craft wire. I wrapped the brown baker's twine around all three candles.

These two tags are from a McGill tag punch, then I embossed the sentiment using a Studio G stamp and added some gel pen stitches. The top tag is mounted on pop dots while the small tag is glued directly to the card front.

B-Ball B-day

Today marks the start of another challenge over at Die Cuttin' Divas.

Anything Goes!

This is a standard A2 (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") card. I grabbed this paper on clearance at Joann's. An orange cardstock base, black cardstock layer, and the patterned paper full of basketballs, it really just screams boy card! I added some orange and white twine to add interest. The orange and patterned paper is inked with brown ink.

I added three black brads and a happy birthday sentiment stamp from Studio G.

This basketball is cut at 3" from Life's a Party. I embossed the orange layer using the Bubbles Cuttlebug folder and inked with brown ink to add texture and interest. This basketball is also attached with an Action Wobble. That sure makes this card extra fun!!

The inside of the card is outfitted to match the front. I love adding the layers to the inside.

Like the front, I added gel pen stitches to all the brown cardstock layers.

I just love the dimension on this card. :)

Easel Birthday Card

Today is a Digital Design Team Day over at Paper Playtime! :) 

The theme this time to make a SUMMER project and include a digital image.

Today I am using an image from Dude Time Doodles. 

I am working with their image titled "Hammock Harold."  

The front features the digi of Harold lounging on hammock on a nice summer day... the grass is growing long beneath his feet...

I layered Harold on a piece of grass patterned paper, a layer of black and then a layer of dark green. He's mounted up on pop dots... sitting on a border of craft card stock and then a layer of grid paper from the DCWV "Guy Stack", black and then on the craft card stock easel base. I added a row of three brown brads along the bottom, a craft tag (from TBBM cut @ 1") with a Studio G stamp. The front is finished off with some black inking and a few twists of off white craft twine.

Harold sits up on his easel base... the sentiment tag on the bottom is mounted the same as Harold himself.  I added another strip of craft card stock to hold up the easel layer.  Like the accent border on the card front, I ran it though the "Diamonds in the rough" Cuttlebug embossing folder before inking the edges and the surface. This layer is also attached with pop dots.

I colored Harold in using Photoshop. I even used the "grass" painting brush to get that cool over-grown look on Harold's lawn.  I added some clouds to the background and finished off the sky with a blue gradient layer.

This sentiment is one that comes with the "Hammock Harold" digi set from Dude Time Doodles.

While I was at it, I went ahead and made two of these cards. I love doing cards in multiples... each additional card doesn't take too much more time than one card! :)

Ford Truck Easel Card

No Cricut on my card today, but I had a fun time making this custom order card.

The sunset and road sign images are from a Google image search, but I had a custom order come in for a birthday card for a guy that is nearing retirement.  The customer wanted a Ford truck from 1949 (the birth year of the recipient) and a road sign for the birthday sentiment.  The sunset is to represent leaving the work force and entering retirement.  This is the card I came up with.

I printed the images onto Glossy photo paper and matted it with a black frame.  I then, printed out a second image and hand cut the truck and road sign and added them to the completed card front with pop dots.  It really give the card some wonderful dimension.  I ran the silver metallic paper through the Diamond Plate embossing folder and set some screw head brads (from Recollections) on the four corners of the card layer and on the bottom two corners on the easel support.

The inside of the card is finished off with some more metallic paper and a second sunset layer - this time I turned the opacity down to 70% using Photoshop so it can be used for the message spot.

The silver metallic paper sure adds wonderful shine to the card. The frame around the card front reminds me of those Diamond Plate licence plate frames. The font on the road sign are "license plate." On the truck, I personalized the license plate to say the recipient's name using "Ford Script." 

Here is the image if you'd like to make one of these cards too.  I took off the personalized licence plate and changed it to read the truck's year.  The road sign now says "happy birthday" only.  Feel free to click on the photo to save it to your computer. I love how it looks with the truck and road sign up on pop dots, but feel free to complete your card however you'd like.

Manly Billiards Card

Michelle over at Queen of my Craftroom is hosting a Manly Card Swap, it's not due until the end of May but I misunderstood this as a challenge (instead of a swap) and got it completed... THEN I read it was a swap so I'll have to make nine more of them!!  Here is what I came up with.

I think this is a wonderful card for a manly card... and what's more manly than Father's Day. I know I am early, but I prefer "well prepared" over "running late".

This is a simple A2 card.  I printed the pictures onto glossy photo paper so that the reflections stand out. I added the sentiment on the computer using 20 point "hand tooled" font. Three little brads along the right side finish off the front of the card. I find Manly cards are better the less doodling I do! :)

The inside matches the front.  I printed both images on one 4" x 6" piece of photo paper and then just cut them apart and matted them to attach to the card.

Man Card #2

Hello to all my blogging friends!!  There are some new followers out there and I want to say a special "hi" to all you guys! :)

I don't have a challenge to post today, just a card to share.

I have a another man card to share.  My Mom's boyfriend has a birthday coming up next month.  I don't know about you, but male cards are the most challenging to me. This particular man is really into beer (drinking in general), so here is the card I came up with for him.

This is an easel card using a wonderful paper stack I picked up on clearance at Fred Meyer.  It's by DCWV and it's called "The Green Stack."  Made out of 70% recycled paper, it's great for those "green" crafters but it also has some of the best patterns I've seen in  awhile.  The texture and weight of the paper is wonderful and it cuts beautifully in the Cricut!!

The "Happy Birthday" and inside sentiment are printed using Photoshop and the beer mug is from a SCAL file I snagged online for free.

Here is the easel card on display.

I added some thin  black gros grain ribbon I picked up up at Joanns for $1 and three antique silver square brads from my stash.

Man Card

Hello to all my blogging friends!!  There are some new followers out there and I want to say a special "hi" to all you guys! :)

I don't have a challenge to post today, just a card to share.

I have a male friend with a birthday coming up next month.  I don't know about you, but male cards are the most challenging to me. This particular friend is really into golf, so here is the card I came up with for him.

 The golf tee is from Everyday Paper dolls, the golf ball is a 3" circle that been ran through the swiss dots cuttlebug folder and mounted with pop dots upside down (swiss dots facing the paper, not out) and then inked with brown and black ink.  I used a computer generated sentiment.

The back ground paper is clouds on top and grass on the bottom.  In this picture you can barely see that I ripped the grass bg twice, once for the hillside and once for the tee to layer into the rough grasses.  I then pop dotted the top layer of grass only.

I did add some brads to the top right also.  I matted the whole thing onto a slate gray/blue card stock and then added the navy blue card stock base.
