Little Monsters Blog Hop

My project is a Reading Log Bookmark.  These would be fun for a classroom Halloween treat or a simple motivational fun for your young reader.

I created a PDF file that goes with this project. Please feel free to download the file. You are free to use it as much as you'd like for your personal projects, but it is not to be used for commercial purposes. On to the project:

Step 1: Print out the PDF onto card stock. I use white for my projects, but any color will do. You will have enough reading logs for two bookmarks each time you print the pdf file.

Step 2: Cut a book mark from card stock. The measurements are 2 1/4" x 8" - you can cut a total of four bookmarks from one sheet of standard 81/2" x 11" card stock.

Step 3: Cut out the reading logs and mount them on the colored card stock, there will be one side with a large blank spot at the top of the bookmark. This is where you or your child will add decorations (we chose to use Cricut Cuts from Mini Monsters). The second side (the long one) will be added to the back of the bookmark. - see second picture -

Step 4: My kids used the Crop-a-Dial to punch holes in the top of the bookmark to add ribbons.

Step 5: We set eyelets with the Crop-a-Dial.

Step 6: Cut ribbons to add to the top of your bookmarks, we used 8" for each bookmark.

Step 7: Cut your decorations. We used Mini Monsters and our Cricut Expression. All our cuts fit perfectly using 2 1/2" for all layers. Both my 7 and 10 year old sons love using the cricut (as you can see from the pictures)! :)

Step 8: Once everything is cut, assemble your decorations. We used a Zig two-way glue pen for the assembly of each monster cut.

Step 9: Attach the decoration to the top of the bookmark with Action Wobbles (super fun addition for small batches, you may want to use pop dots if making a lot of bookmarks).

Step 10: Have your child write his/her name on the bookmark. Here my 7 year old is using a Gelly Roll white gel pen.

Now my little monsters have their own little monsters to help them read. My 7 year old finished his bookmark and immediately went to his room to pick out a book to read.... if you ask me that is a wonderful result for this little 15 minute project!! :)

I created this treat box today... the song lyrics repeating in my head

over and over. I cut the nut cup from Tags, Bags, Boxes

and More (at 6", the largest it could go to fit on my 12" X 12" cutting mat).

The purple monster is from Mini Monsters, it started out as a three

horned monster, but to go with the song, I HAD to alter him. :) He's

cut at 3" - I only used scraps for all the monster parts.

This yellow and orange striped paper is from a .97 cents Studio G

paper pack. I backed it with some yellow card stock. I just knew that it would 

need the extra support. I used Sticky Strip to hold it all together and added 

some foam tape to attach the monster parts.

I hand cut this little tag and used a Inkadinkado stamp from last year. 

I attached it to the orange ribbon handle with a simple brad.

Here is my monster's tail. This has got to be my favorite monster from 

the Mini Monsters cart. I think this is like the third time I've cut him.

Some black stitches finish off the treat container. I used a black Glaze pen make by Sakura (Gelly Roll). Add some candy and you are good to go! :)

Black Widow Frame

It's time for another Paper Playtime Challenge!! YEAA! :) The new challenge is

 "Halloween!"

I have this scary frame to share.  If you visited the blog hop yesterday, you may have seen another vinyl and frame project... here is my Halloween version! This distressed black frame ($5 from Craft Warehouse) measures 7" x 20". It comes with a sheet of glass like a picture frame does, but it doesn't have a backer, it makes it a terrific piece for a home decor project like this.

These spiders are cut from black matte vinyl. They are from "Wild Card" cut at 8 1/4" for the center spider and 3 3/4" for the two small spiders.

The red black widows mark is from "Simply Charmed", I cut it out in red vinyl and then added some Studio G rhinestone for the spider's eyes. Instead of using the super expensive vinyl transfer tape that Provo Craft sells, I use a super cheep alternative: clear shelf paper.  I bought a whole roll for $2 at Big Lots.

The Spider Webs are from "Mini Monsters," cut at 6 1/2" tall. I cut two but cut off the spider that hangs from the web. Again, I used clear shelf paper as a transfer sheet (I even reused the same piece).

Jenny's Big Birthday Blog-a-versary Blog Hop

I have this monster themed birthday pack to share with you today. These are for Jenny so I really hope she received them already! I made the card and my two sons put the notebook together. They said Jenny needed a gift (not just a card) and insisted that "EVERYONE" needs a notebook. :)

Here is the card. I used Mini Monsters for the two part red monster.  All the monstery layers were cut using Post-it Craft Paper. I embossed the red layers and the blue horns. 

 I used Gypsy Wanderings for the card base (welded with my Gypsy).  To make the card layers, I just resized the card shape by 1/4" for each mat.

The little speech bubble is from Create a Critter. I created the sentiment by combining "a simple hi" and "big hugs" from two different stamps in the same stamp set.

All the stamps are from Hero Arts "Big Hugs" set. The black and white ribbon is from Joann's (I think it's a wonderful compliment to my gel pen stitching).

This is the inside of the card... and the monster's tail! :)

Again, I embossed the red layer of the monster's tail. You can see how well the Post-it Craft paper embosses.

This is Jenny's notebook from my kids.  They used the same paper I used for the cover. It's American's Traditions paper called "Game Day." I don't know if it's still available, it's been in my stash for a while. We used my Bind-it-All to bind the notebook.

This cute little monster is cut from paper from the DCWV summer paper pack and glitter paper for the party hat. Didn't my 8-year-old draw a wonderful smile! He used dimensional paint. My 6-year old added the googly eye. I added the gel pen stitches.

This is a little stamp we picked up at a garage sale.  I think it's from a Close to my Heart set. I think the hand-written look is perfect for a child! :)

"I love you to pieces!" card

Hi everybody, I am on a roll!! Here is another challenge entry.

This time the challenge is hosted by Paula over at More Than Favors.  It's for the Cartridge Chaos Challenge. The cartridge this week is Mini Monsters.  With two young boys, monsters come easy for us, but I really had to think about this one.  I made a Valentine card for my oldest son, he's eight and had a monster themed party last year! :)

I cut the skeleton at 3 3/4" (and all his layers) but I added the 1/2" heart from Create a Critter.  The mask and heart are added with pop dots.

Here you can see how the card opens (it's a Z fold card) and I cut two shadow layers for the skeleton so that you have a place to write on the inside of the card.

I used some Crayola card stock for the bg paper.  It looks like all the hearts were hand-drawn! :) I attached some crafters string to the left side under my sentiment label. I printed the sentiment on my computer using Pea Shelia font at 22 points. Lastly I added some gel pen stitches.

Halloween Blog Hop: Day 2

Todays project is a great one for a Halloween party, a class party or a monster themed birthday party (these were made for my son's 8th birthday).  The goody bags I've made include a altered notebook, a full size Hershey bar wrapper, and a hand full of candies along with a quick bag topper.
