Baseball Birthday Extras

I made this cute baseball birthday set today.  When my kids have birthday parties, we almost always have coloring pages or coloring books to match the party theme... so we have to have a matching art caddy right??

I started out with this silverware holder from IKEA. I bought a couple a while back on clearance.

I grabbed some handy dandy storage containers, this one is a clean tin can that would otherwise be recycled... gotta love free supplies. I covered it with patterned paper - DCWV summer stack, cut to 4" x 12". I just used ATG tape to secure it.

Here is my full caddy, each can decorated with coordinating paper and filled with all the supplies we'll need to craft for a birthday party.

Then, I made this panel to decorate the new "art caddy".

I used some more of the same patterned paper, and added a printed pennant and some Cricut cuts.

The bat, cut to 5 1/2" long, is from Boys will be Boys. I inked the edges for dimension and added some little scraps to the handle for the grip.  I attached it with pop dots.

Here is my little pennant. I used "banner" font because it reminded me of a baseball pennant.  I just hand cut this pennant and glued it directly to the front panel.

This baseball is from Life's a Party. I sized it to 2 1/2". Again, I attached it with pop dots.

What party would be complete without goody bags.  So to continue the theme, I added the same bat and ball as before.  I threw some red trim (cut from cardstock scraps) on the top and bottom. The goody bag's pennant is smaller, but used the same font. Instead of more expensive basket filler, I just tucked some candy into a basket style coffee filter (300 to a package from the Dollar Tree) and tied the top.  I also added a bag of fruit snack and a granola bar to the can.

Back to School Card

Here is a cute card I make last night.  I was having trouble sleeping... so why not get up and craft! :)

This is an A2 card and surprisingly enough, it's not a shaped card!  I grabbed all cuts from the Locker Talk cart, the notebook paper is cut at 3 1/2" and the "back to school" circle is cut at 2 1/2".

This little sentiment circle comes with the little pencil, I did color in the tip with my white gel pen though. I added the black shadow layer (I just grabbed a circle shape from Locker Talk and sized it to 2 3/4"). 

I love this little binder clip.  I bought it forever ago and I use them all the time, but this one now has a permanent place here on this cute card. White gel pen doodling finishes off the sentiment.

I added white crafting string around the green polka-dot paper before adhering it to the card. The lines on the notebook paper were just little slits, so I traced them with black and red Glaze markers.  Can you see the wonderful gloss that the finished lines have? I love them.  More white gel pen stitches finish this element too.

I took a little scrap of the background paper to decorate the inside too.  For this card I used generic black and white card stock.  All the cut pieces on the front are from my scrap bin.... the background paper is from DCWV's Grade School Mat Stack.

Ice Cream Shaker Card

I don't have anyone in mind for this card... but it sure will make someone smile!

I made this card using Sweet Treats.  The card measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and will fit in a standard A2 envelope.  The special thing about this card is that the ice cream top is a shaker. 

I used some zig-zag ribbon... something I rarely use.  I also added a Prima Bitty Blooms flower under a button from my stash.  The little tag is a punch and the stamp is from Studio G (one from their Sweets collection).  

I layered some foam tape under the card stock layers (all from my stash) and a piece of plastic taken from a Cricut box. I used real ice cream sprinkles in the shaker. :)

Here is the card base, you can see how only the top scoop opens up. To get the ice cream cone texture on the cone, I used my Martha Stewart Score Board and scored the cone every 1/4". I then inked the cone with some brown ink. I think it creates a perfect texture for the cone.

The "Happy Birthday" inside the card is also from a Studio G stamp set.

Penguin shaped card

This cute little penguin is from Simply Charmed.  I've never cut him before today, but he's so cute, I'm sure he'll use them again. Using the shadow layer (sized to 4 1/4" wide) I created a shaped card.

I welded the shape at the top so the penguin can stand up... oh-so-cute! I added some pop dots under the two sides of the bow tie.  Some quick doodling with a white gel pen is always fun for me.

I used flat back self-adhesive pearls for the eyes! :)

The sentiment stamp is from Studio G.  My favorite craft store, Craft Warehouse, was having a sidewalk sale this last week and had TONS of Studio G Stamps on super sale.... when I say super sale I mean it!!! They were all priced at 10 for a $1.00!!

Sand Pail card

All these pieces are cut from scraps! :)  I know the background yellow and red layer is from the DCWV summer stack from last year.  I thought it fit the summery/beach feel of this card well.

The sentiment is from Hero Arts "Big Hugs" stamp set.  I added a ribbon along the top and bottom of the sentiment box using my ATG tape. Two self stick black gems and a Prima Itty Bitty flower (with matching ribbon tail) finish off the sentiment block.

The sand pail is from Simply Charmed. I cut all layers at 2 1/2". The sea shells are from Stretch Your Imagination. I cut two sets of them at 1" out of white shimmery paper, giving them a lovely shiny fresh-from-the-ocean look. I added the shells to the sand pail layer and matched the shadows behind the shells where they came beyond the sand layer.

Here is a close up of the shells, sitting neatly on the sand layer (DCWV photo stack). I added white gel pen stitches and doodles through out the card. I use a Gelly Roll brand pen.

 The inside of the card also got some of the matching scraps.

Watermelon Summer Reading Log

I had time to sneak one more project in... my son and I created this summer reading log featuring the watermelon from Doodle Charms.

I cut the watermelon from Doodlecharms at 4". My son helped design and assemble his reading log.  He chose paper from my scrap bin - the red black and shimmery green watermelon rind are all scraps.  The yellow stars background paper is unmarked but came from the loose paper racks at Joanns.

Here you can see the green watermelon rind, it's shimmery green and that doesn't photograph too well but it looks terrific in person.  We added some Glossy Accents to the seeds and I added the white gel pen stitches. The watermelon is attached with two Action Wobbles and it looks so cute! :)

We added some red and white bakers twine and a red button too. You can see the stars on the background paper here.  My son told me he wanted yellow paper with stars and I found this paper for him in my stash! Just perfect.

We printed the title directly on the yellow star layer.  Bryce picked Kristen ITC font (30 points).  I added a green outline to the black letters and Bryce really wanted a shadow layer so we added that too.

Here is the inside of the reading log.  I've included a PDF file so you can download it for free and make your own (or create one with your child). I used a saddle stapler to bind Bryce's reading log, but you can lace it, use a Bind-it-all, Cinch binder etc.

Here's a close up of the reading log pages.  You can see I just used some 20 lb printer paper for our pages (you can see the backside bleeding through a little) but you could used heavier paper if you wish.

Mountain Scene Card

Hi everyone! I have a fun card to share with you today.  One of my favorite things about this card is that there are surprise moving pieces on the front. 

Here is the card front.  It's all put together here, it may look kinda ordinary, but there is a wonderful secret.

When you fold out the tree, you can see more of the mountain scene revealed. I cut the tree and all it's parts from Simply Charmed at 3 3/4".  Something special is how I made this card.  The tree is welded to the blue layer so that it all cuts together, making the piecing fairly easy.

Second, the picket fence folds out too.  Again, I welded the fence (from PDDU, cut at 1 1/4" two fences welded together) to the black mat. I cut the white fence and when pieced it makes a nice strong fold out layer.

This is the grass, fir trees and mountains from Paper Doll Dress up.  The mountains are cut at 5 3/4" wide, I cut a second layer to get the snow caps. The mountains are cut using gray shimmer paper (they look more subtle in person). The fir trees measure between 1/2" and 1". The grass layers are measured to 5 3/4" also. The little flowers are from Simply Charmed (with yellow liquid pearls centers) and the clouds are from CAC.  I added some inking around all layers and gel pen stitches around the black layer. Stardust Stickles adds the sparkle you see all over the card.

I added some matching blue and black mats to the inside. I added a Hero Arts stamp from the Big Hugs set and some white gel pen stitches.

Cake Card

Every once in a while I like to pull out some old, neglected cartridges... today is was Celebrations!

I made this shaped card on my Gypsy, sizing the shadow layer to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (standard A2).  I welded two of the shadow layers together to form the card base, and cut out another shadow layer (in black) to hide the folded edge of the card base.

I cut all the layers of the cake to fit the shadow but added a couple scalloped borders from Plantin Schoolbook and some pennants from Celebrations. I also embossed the off-white cake layer with D'Vine Swirls.

I added doodling with my Glaze Gelly Roll pens in blue and green.  I used little alphabet beads to spell out "YUMM" on the banner!! LOVE IT! Green and white twine finish off the banner and adds more details to the cake plate. I used my Bow-Easy to tie the triple loop bow on the bottom right side.

I've had a few people comment on my welding technique so I added this picture so you can all see exactly how my card is built.  I just used heavy weight card stock for the green card base.
