Dr. Suess Christmas Subway Art

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share some fun Subway Art I created for my Christmas card fronts for this year.

I just love the quote and I've seen it as printables, but not as Subway Art. With the fun trend, I thought it would make a lovely printable for my cards and a wonderful free printable for you too. :) Enjoy.

You can print it as a 8x10 and frame it up for some fun Christmas Decor, or print it for your own Christmas cards too.

Feel free to save this for your own use, but no selling, please.

Snowman Advent Garland

Hi everybody.

Snowmen Advent Garland

Today I have a fun project to share with all of you. It's one of those projects that you "ohh" and "ahhh" over on Pinterest.... well, I created it and I just LOVE how it turned out. My two sons are excited to see December 1st arrive so we can start using it too. :)

So I started this project by purchasing some 2" vending machine capsules. While you can go and throw a bunch of quarters at one of those .50c vending machines, my way is cheaper. :) I bought these through an Ebay listing here:

This was the ONLY Ebay store I found that lets you choose your cap colors and the listing was for 25 capsules which is exactly how many I needed for this project. Perfect, right? :) I chose 1/2 red and 1/2 green caps. The caps become the hats for the little snowpeople.

I started off prepping all the little clear capsules by spraying them with two coats of Valspar's Plastic Primer. This helps the paint stick without peeling, cracking or flaking. If you've ever spray painted plastic that flexes (like these little guys will when you open to fill or reveal the daily surprise will), you'll know how important this step is.

Alternatively, you can fill the little capsules with shredded white paper if you want to skip the painting all together. It's really up to you, but I had the paint on hand and I thought it would make a much nicer finished project that can be used for years to come.

Next, I added two coats of flat white Valspar spray paint. Make sure you get down to the edges. I love Valspar brand paint because it coats well and doesn't drip like the cheap kinds. :)

While all that paint is drying, you can move onto the next step.

I used my drill gun and added two holes to the top of each cap / snowman hat. I used about an 1/8" drill bit, but it really depends on the ribbon you plan to string the garland onto. If you'd like, you can just use little wire ties to add these little caps to a garland you already have. That would look super cute too.

I used a large eyed (embroidery style) needle to string my caps onto my 5/8" satin ribbon. I just alternated the colors to form the pattern. Super easy. :)

Okay, next I added Pom-Poms (bought at Dollar Tree) to the tops using hot glue. I added a dot of glue to the center of each cap and placed the pom-pom into the glue. Avoid gluing the pom-pom onto the ribbon. If you glue the pom-pom to just the cap top, the little snowmen can be slid on the garland if need be.

See, they sure are starting to look like little hats now. Don't you think?

When the painted capsules are all dry, I used black Tulip puffy paint to add the little faces, two larger dots for the eyes and five little dots for the mouth. I also added the numbers to the back of the snowman heads (but forgot to take a pic, sorry).

While I painted faces, my boys were trimming out simple snowman noses from scraps of orange felt. We applied them to the faces with a little dot of hot glue. Almost done. :)

The last few steps are easy... put your prizes, candies, slips of paper with holiday activities printed on them, etc into the capsules and snap them to the lids/hats. If you need more/less room between them, slid the snowmen on the garland.

My boys wanted jingle bells on the garland, so we added them by tying them on using a little green sheer ribbon. These little bells will slide as well.

Don't you just love this little snowman face??? So cute but so simple too.

And here is our little sting of happy snowmen. Just awaiting their special day. :)

Here is a shot of the back of our snowmen. I used the same black Tulip Puffy paint to hand-draw the numbers. If you have a die-cut machine, you could use vinyl to add the numbers, but I loved the ease of adding these while I was drawing the faces anyway.

Please feel free to share this project. I am Pinning it using Pinterest here:

Santa in July??

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!
This weeks theme is

Today I used an older cartridge. I just LOVE Doodlecharms and grabbed it right away when I received this challenge! I just love this Santa. He sits on an A2 (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") Z-fold card. Santa is cut to 4" (along with his coordinating layers) and I cut an additional shadow layer.

Here's why.... I use the additional shadow layer to position my inside sentiments so it won't show when the card is closed. The background paper is from an old Christmas pack in my stash. I also added a strip of red stitched gros grain ribbon along the side and three buttons to finish off the right side.

I used my white gel pen (I know, I can't resist) to add stitches along Santa's shadow layer and add shine to his eyes.

See how great this little card can sit on it's own. I just LOVE Z-fold cards.

We'd love for you to come on over and play along with us at Die Cuttin' Divas!

Stocking Card

Today is Tuesday and that means another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge. This week it's a sketch... like I've said before, sketches are my weakness, so please be honest. :)
My card is a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" base so it'll fit in a standard A2 envelope. All my patterned paper is from the Holly Jolly Christmas paper pad by Echo Park (I LOVE this paper).

The red glitter ribbon trim is actually Glitter Garland by Darice. I bought a 25 foot spool of it on Clearance last January. I cut it down and clipped the corners for my card.

The inside of the card has matching paper and glitter trim too.

My stocking is mounted on the green square with pop dots. The red layer measures 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" and the green layer measures 2" x 2". I added some stitches using my white Gelly Roll gel pen.

This adorable stamp came from a $1 pack by Scrappy Cat. I found it at Joanns in the dollar bin. It also came with the rhinestones I put on the cuff of my stocking.

This cute little stocking is from Christmas Cheer. I cut it at 2". The cuff and toe/heals are cut from white glitter paper by DCWV. I love that paper and it's easy to add a little sparkle using just scraps.

Here is our sketch this week. Please jump over to Die Cuttin Divas to enter the challenge.

3-D Christmas Tree Card

I think I may be addicted to these 3-D elements. I cut three of these trees from the Christmas cart (cut at 3 1/2"). If you'd like to make these 3-D style shapes, any symmetrical shape will do, if you chose to use a shape like this tree that is not symmetrical, be sure to flip one (using your Cricut or Gypsy) so you can piece them together correctly.

For these trees I used the new Echo Park, Holy Jolly Holiday pack. The window frame came from Christmas too (I sized it to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and welded it to create the card base). The window shape is a tag from Preserves. I cut it in blue and in a snowflake vellum too.

The "joy" is from Winter Woodland. I ripped some white glitter paper into snow drifts and curled and inked the edges to give them some defination. I also inked the red frame, the blue window and the tree (using ink colors to match the layers and a finger dauber).

I used some red Studio G glitter glue to add the little accents on the tree.

Here is one last look at the adorable Christmas tree. I just LOVE the way it stands up, but can be folded down for mailing. :)

Penguin shaped card

This cute little penguin is from Simply Charmed.  I've never cut him before today, but he's so cute, I'm sure he'll use them again. Using the shadow layer (sized to 4 1/4" wide) I created a shaped card.

I welded the shape at the top so the penguin can stand up... oh-so-cute! I added some pop dots under the two sides of the bow tie.  Some quick doodling with a white gel pen is always fun for me.

I used flat back self-adhesive pearls for the eyes! :)

The sentiment stamp is from Studio G.  My favorite craft store, Craft Warehouse, was having a sidewalk sale this last week and had TONS of Studio G Stamps on super sale.... when I say super sale I mean it!!! They were all priced at 10 for a $1.00!!

Ornament Projects for Family Fridays

Today is a "Family Friday" over at Crazy About Cricut.
The assignment is to make an ornament project with your kids.

I have two projects for you today.  First up is my disk ornaments my kids will be making for our family members.  These are super simple but so cute because they include pictures of my boys.  I used "Keepsakes" 3 1/4" flat disk ornaments.  After I used Photoshop to add their names and the year, I print out the pictures and  my boys cut them to fit in the 3" circle and I glue the sides together.
What a simple but soon-to-be cherished ornament.

Here are the wonderful ornaments my kiddos made:

The second is a wonderful ornament that could double as a stocking stuffer!!  "Grinch Pills" could be perfect for that person on your Christmas list that just doesn't have the Holiday Spirit. My kids LOVE this project so we are making one for each of their cousins and attaching them to the top of their Christmas gifts!

I have included jpg files for you to make your own double or single sided "Grinch Pills" and the Gypsy file for you to cut the tic tac wrapper with your Cricut. - Just follow the links (or click on the photos) to go to 4Shared to download the files.  If you have a problem, I can email them to you too.

Double sided and single sided "Grinch Pills."

Both sides of the double sided version of the project.
Here you can see how I added the ornament hanger.
I used the Big Pack of tic tacs for this project.

I saw a similar project on another blog, but for the life if me, I can't remember who's it was.  It used Make the Cut, so I couldn't use the files, but I set out to make my own.  The Gypsy files use "Just Because Cards" for the rounded rectangle and "spine" of the tic tac wrapper.

In case you missed it, here is the project I shared during the Snowy Winter Blog Hop this last weekend.  I didn't share the Gypsy cut files during the hop and had a few people interested in them.  In case I didn't already email them to you, or if you are interested now, I have included the links here. Enjoy!
