Back to School Card

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!
This weeks theme is:
Sketch + Back to School!!

Here is my take on the sketch.  All my patterned cardstock is from DCWV's Grade School stack. The card base is a standard A2 with the corners rounded with my corner chomper. The oval is 3 1/4" x 4" 1/4" and 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" cut from Accent Essentials. The Hexagon is also from Accent Essentials, cut at 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" and 2 1/2" x 4". The cute little ruler is actually Peel and Stick Ruler Tape, cut to size, 1/2" x 4" and the black layer cut to 3/4" x 4 1/4".

Here is the sketch for this week's Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge. As you can see, I tipped the sketch over on its side to add some interest and variety to the challenge.

The "back to school" is from Simply Charmed cut to 1 3/4" and matching shadow layer. I added the hexagon layer with pop dots as well as the ruler layer.

These cute little red back self adhesive pearls finish off the corners to match the sketch and I added my white gel pen stitches to all the black layers and some little doodle-dots to the sentiment too.

Some scraps of the cardstock and black layers finish off the inside of the card too.

We'd love for you to come on over and play along with us at Die Cuttin' Divas!

Happy 1st Day of School Pencils

Please scroll down for my Ginger Snaps Scraps DT post.

Hi! Thanks for hoping with us along
If you came from Sharon's Blog @ Simply Sweet by Sharon, you are in the right place.
If you just came across this hop and would like to start from the beginning, please go back to Jenny's blog (Crazy About Cricut).

My boys and I made these candy pencils for their teachers, the Librarian, the music and PE teacher and their principal too.

Here's what you'll need for each Rolo Pencils:
1 pack of Rolos
1 Hershey Kiss (we used almond)
a strip of pink cardstock
a circle of pink cardstock
a strip of mirrored cardstock
hot glue, quick dry glue or redline tape
a paper crimper if you have one

I've included free printables for this project. Click here to download the free printable in PDF format, or scroll down for the file in jpg format. This printable fits 2 pencils on each page. Cut the paper down to 4 1/2" x 6" and run it through the paper crimper to add the texture. This really helps is look like a pencil. :)

Cut the metallic mirrored paper to 1/4" x 5" (you can also use aluminum foil for this part). This will be the metal crimp of the pencil that holds the eraser on. I used red line sticky tape for this paper. Cut a strip of pink cardstock to 1/2" x 5" and a pink cardstock circle with a 1" punch or diecutter.

First glue the Hershey Kiss to the Rolo pack with some hot glue. Add adhesive to the yellow cardstock layer. I used ATG tape and my two sons found this easy enough, all not all the labels were super straight. :) Make sure to align the "no. 2" pencil label with the end of the Rolos that don't have the Kiss on it. This will be the eraser end.

Next, we used ATG tape runner to add the pink strip to the eraser end and then added the pink circle to finish of the eraser. Try your best to put all the strip seams to the back of the pencil.

Next, attach the mirrored strip over the eraser end.  Again, try to keep your seams to the back of the pencil. We did trim our paper strips to keep them hidden if we needed to.

See, doesn't it look like a pencil eraser? :)

So this is what your pencil will turn out like. We loved them so much that my two sons and I made a total of 12 of them to give to all the wonderful teachers in our lives.

Here is your printable for this project if you'd like it.
Right click on the image to save it to your computer in jpg format, or

Simply print the free file onto a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" yellow cardstock, cut to 4 1/2" x 6", run it through a paper crimper is you have it and attach it to your Rolos.

Gift for a teacher : Apple Card Set

Welcome to our Back To School Blog Hop with the
Ginger Snap Scraps Design Team!

If you came from Ann @ November Rose, you are in the right place.
If you just came across this hop and would like to start from the beginning, please go back to

Today I have a card set teacher's gift to share with you.  I made a set of ten of these adorable pieces apple card for my boy's teachers.
I used red, black and white generic card stock, patterned card stock from the DCWV's Grade School mat stack, a Studio G rubber stamp (but any stamp with an outline would work) and some craft string (or twine).  In addition, I cut a box for the set of A2 cards to be gifted in.

The little apples are stamped onto a 2" x 2" piece of white card stock, the black layer is 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" and the red layer is 2 1/2" x 2 1/2".  I stamped the apple onto red polka-dot paper (DCWV, stack 7), brown (for the stem), green (for the leaf) and white (for the apple center).  I cut each of these pieces out so I could glue them together for the finished apple.  It was quite time consuming, but I think they turned out wonderful!!

Here is how they look finished.  I used some Zig precision glue to assemble the apples.

The red card base measures 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".  I wrapped three layers of craft string around the patterned card stock before I used my ATG tape to assemble the card front. I then used my ATG tape to secure the apple layer to the center of the card front.

I made ten cards for each teacher.  Each card has the same apple decoration, but the patterned card stock is all different -- all from DCWV's Grade School mat stack.

I love how they all go together! :)

One last look at the card design. <3 div="div">
I used Tags, Bags, Boxes and More to make the gift boxes (the matchbox on button 43 or page 124). The window is from Just Because Cards. To complete the window, I recycled some Cricut Cartridge packaging!

Here is the Gypsy file for the box.  It is sized to fit the A2 cards with envelopes.

I tied the box closed with some more string and made a little matching tag and voila!  It's done.

Here's the second box, the little frame around the window is different, but everything else is the same.

Personalized Teacher Frames

Welcome to the Back to School Blog Hop!! If you came from Lisa's blog, you are in the right place.... if you just stumbled upon the hop, please head back to Jamie's blog where the hop begins, you don't want to miss a stop.

For day two, I'd like to share a relativity quick project.  They are so personal and unique. How special would it be to present one of these to your favorite teacher?

It has the teacher's name in the middle, cut in black vinyl using Plantin Schoolbook (the size varies depending on the length of the name, this one is just over 3 1/2").  I cut it with my Gypsy so I could get it as large as possible.

The white vinyl is Simply Sweet font cut at (I think) 3/4".  It reads:

"To teach a child is to touch a future."

The frame is one I picked up at a local craft store called "Craft Warehouse." I know this is just a regional store (in just the North West USA I think).  The frame is black and is distressed and includes the fixed glass inside.

Instead of using the transfer tape that Provo Craft sells, I just used some clear shelf paper (I bought a big roll for $2 at Big Lots). It works just as well and it WAY cheaper.

Thanks for stopping by today, your next hop stop is Gina @ California Scrappin'.... but before you go, please leave me a comment (and become a follower) for the chance to win my blog candy.
I don't have a picture, but I am giving away a stamp block and 10 sets of stamps!!

"One Smart Cookie" Z-fold card

Today is a Design Team Day over at Paper Playtime! :)
The theme this time is to make a z-fold card.

I made two of these wonderful cards to give to my boy's teacher for the last day of school. We tied the cards to a bag of chocolate chip cookies!! YUMMM!

I added the sentiment tag with some pop-dots but only attached it to the right side of the card.  This lets the block act like a little latch to hold the card shut when you tuck the cookie under the sentiment tag! :) Cute huh!

The cookie is cut at 3 1/2" from Sesame Street Friends. I added some "white" glaze pen doodling to the cookie but it really looks like embossing.

I printed these little sentiments on my computer. I used Copybook font for the top and bottom lines and Peas Picky Panda for the center line.  All the text was 20 point font.  I've included this file in JPG format so you can print some out for the teachers in your life!

This is how the z-fold card folds out flat.  Normally, there is no hole in the card base, I just added it so I can string the cards onto the bag of cookies.

Just click on the pic above and right click to save it so you can use if for your own card! :)

Now, head on over to Paper Playtime and enter in the z-fold card challenge!

I am also including this card in the following challenge:
