Father's Day Pocket Cards

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas Challenge!!
This week the theme is

My two sons and I chose to make some Father's Day cards!
Here are the cards by  seven and nine year old sons made with me today:

We made these pocket BBQ cards. I'll be including a full tutorial, so please forgive me for the tons of pictures on this post. So, here we go...

You'll need the following cuts from From my Kitchen:
BBQ and it's shadow - 4" - red / black
Spatula - 2" - metallic silver
Handle from the hand mixer - 1" - metallic silver
oval sized to 1" x 4" (for under the grill top) in silver

Cuts from Robotz:
half circle (red lid for BBQ) - 4" W x 2" H - red
half circle (black for lid shadow) - 4 1/4" W x 2 1/4" H - black

Extras:
Background paper cut to 4" x 5 1/4"
card base 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
4 1/4" x 3" piece of cardstock for the insert.

First, attach the silver oval under the grill top. We used Scotch Quick Dry Glue.

Glue all the shadows to their pieces.  My kids do pretty good lining up the pieces, but younger kids might need some more help. The glue the BBQ to the card base after attaching the background paper.

THIS IS A PARENT ONLY STEP:
Open up the card base and put it on a self healing mat. Use an Exacto or similar knife to cut open the BBQ at the base of the grill top (see photo for help). Cut all the way through the card front.

Glue the card base together to make a pocket.  I marked the inside of my card to show you where we put the tape runner (we use my ATG gun). Glue the four sides of the card front along with a couple more strips of glue along the top of the card above the cut only (see picture).

My nine year old added all the "Happy Father's Day" stamps. This one is from Studio G. My seven year old added the silver metallic spatula with some more quick dry glue.

Slip your insert into the pocket as far as it can go.  Add some pop-dots along the top of the insert.

Place the lid onto the pop dots. Try to line up the lines of the BBQ and completely cover the grill top. My kids both love this step! :)

See how the BBQ lid pulls the insert?? Love it! :)

We added just a little scrap slip of the bg paper to the bottom of the insert. It looks cute and there is no waste. We made six of these cards and needed one sheet of the 12x12 DCWV paper (called Juniper stars on Cream), two sheets of red card stock, two sheets of black and only scraps of the silver and metallic silver paper. For our card bases we used pre-made white cards, but it would only take three sheets of white card stock if you are making your own card bases.

We'd love for you to come on over and play along with us at Die Cuttin' Divas!

Seasoned to Perfection

Today marks the start of another Die Cuttin' Divas challenge. The theme this week is:
Blue, White and Silver

This fun card is from From My Kitchen. I love the shape of the card... it's a recipe card! The card measures 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and will fit in a standard A2 envelope.

The salt and pepper shakers are cut at 3".  I inked around all the blue layers with royal blue ink.

I attached the pepper shaker with 1/8" pop dots and the salt shaker with 1/4" pop dots.  I just LOVE the dimension!! I drew the holes on the top of the shakers with my white gel pen. I added these silver flat back self adhesive pearls in sets of three (I buy mine at Craft Warehouse).

I printed this sentiment using Hobby font at 23 points. My EK Success Photo Label punch was perfect for this card.  I hand cut the blue layer to mat.  This blue textured card stock is from my scraps, but I know it's Bazzill.  I added some white gel pen stitches on these blue layers only.

Here you can see how the gel pen stitches match the white stitching on the blue ribbon.  I found this ribbon on clearance for 50 cents at Walmart. The polka dot back ground paper is from Heidi Grace.

Instead of having a card base that opens to the side (which would be easier with this card shape)  I made this card open from the top so it can be displayed.  My card base measures 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" and folds in the center.

I cut the recipe card shaped front separately from the card base to I could attach it to the back of the card front (you can see how the card base starts below the shoulder of the recipe card).

Please take some time to craft with the Die Cuttin' Divas and link up your
and don't forget to include your die-cut!

Have an Udderly Amazing Day!

I pulled out the My Pink Stamper Punny-licious stamps today. Here is the cute card I came up with! :)
The cow is cut from From my Kitchen at 2 3/4", the cow bell and collar are from Just Because Cards (the sheep button) cut at 7".  I mounted her up on pop dots.

The sentiment is from two different stamps from My Pink Stampers Punny-licious set.

I doodled all around the card (including ON the cow).  The border punch is called Effervesce by Fiskars. I also added two lengths of 1/8" red gros grain ribbon... I wanted a thicker band of ribbon but didn't have thicker red ribbon.

I added a little more patterned paper (from DCWV, Stack 7).  I love this plaid paper, it reminds me of a picnic table! :) I hope you like this card as much as I do.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in a comment or use the "Need to Contact me?" tab at the top of my blog.

"I'm TNT, I'm Dynamite..."

I know I am super early, but thanks to a challenge over at Sentimental Sundays, here are some 4th of July cards.  The challenge is to make a card inspired by a song... my song is "TNT" by AC/DC.

I found these little firecrackers SVG file online.
I cut the file in red, white and blue and ended up with three sets of these cute little firecrackers.  The little fire/flames are from From my Kitchen.

I accented the firecrackers by mounting them on pop-dots onto this wonderful silver shimmer paper. I don't know how well it will show up on the picture but it's a terrific fit for the card. I added some Studio G glitter glue to the top set of sparks and the stars on the center firecracker.

The sentiment is a cute little stamp from Close to My Heart, Seasonal Celebrations. Of course I added gel pen stitches around the black layers of the card and matched it with the black gros grain ribbon that has matching stitches! :)

The background paper is called Game Day by American Traditional Designs.

Here is the inside of the card.  I just had to throw some song lyrics... I LOVE AC/DC.  My husband took me to my very first concert in 2001 to see AC/DC's Stiff Upper Lip tour.  :)

Recipe Cards

If you haven't yet, please take a second to enter my 400 follower giveaway!

I was super thrilled when I jumped over to More Than Favors today!! Paula posted the new Cricut Cartridge Chaos Challenge was to use From My Kitchen!!

While I've had this cartridge for awhile now, I've only used it once before I did this project. I made this recipe card for a swap over at Queen of My Craftroom.

I cut the pot and all it's layers at 4".  I even cut the handles and lid top using silver metallic paper. I love the way it shines but it sure is tough to photograph!

I made a 4" x 6" recipe card creating the card shape with my Gypsy. I welded the two sides together to make the card. I love that there is a little tab to put the recipe name.

Here you can see how it opens up to reveal the ingredients and directions.  They are both printed using Pristina font at 20 points. I love how easy it is to read!! :)

I matted each side of the recipe with some Cloud 9 paper.

Here is a close-up of the front.  I added white gel pen stitches and rhinestones too.
Can you see the pattern on the pink bg paper? It's subtle but so cute!

Here is the sentiment block I made.  I think it's cute... my hubby thinks it's corny! :)  I punched it out with my EK Success Journaling punch after printing it, again using Pristina font.

Phone Hello card

I love to enter the Paper Playtime challenges!! And I just have to say that their challenge this week, Technology, was a huge challenge!! :) I had to think about what to do / how to do it for awhile!!

Then I heard the familiar thud of a new phone book delivery... well, that gave me a great idea! I pulled a couple of pages from the old phone book before I threw it in the recycling bin.  Can you spot the re-used phone book pages on my project? :)

I used white pages for the bg paper and yellow pages for the phone.  I pulled the blue color out of the white pages (can you see the little blue box on the right) as an accent color on the ribbon ($1 bin at M's) and the phone pieces.

I inked all the edges (bg paper and on the phone too) to give it a grungy look.

I put Glossy Accents on the phone body and receiver to give it a shine.
The "hello" stamp is from TPC Studios's Whimsy Greetings.
The phone is cut at 3 1/2" from "From my Kitchen."

I added black sharpie doodling all around the card.
The yellow scalloped circle is from Accent Essentials (cut at 3").

I put Glitter Glue on the phone cord and the little shine marks.

Here is the inside... all grungy too!!

What can you find in your house to re-use today?
